SNIEDZE PRAULIŅA / JEWEL ART RESIDENCY: MEMORY & HERITAGE
Balsas, fleita, erdvė ir aidas – Sniedze kūryboje muzika tampa ne tik garsu, bet ir būdu išgirsti vietą.
Sniedze Prauliņa – kompozitorė, dainų autorė, dainininkė ir fleitininkė iš Rygos, Latvijos. Ji kuria muziką filmams, animacijai, teatrui, solo projektams ir grupei JUUK, aktyviai bendradarbiauja su įvairiais menininkais, improvizuoja ir kuria atmosferas poezijos skaitymams, parodoms bei performatyviems susitikimams.
Žagarė menininkei nėra svetima – čia ji jau yra koncertavusi Žagarės Fringe festivalyje su savo solo kūryba ir grupe JUUK. Sugrįždama į Žagarę rezidencijai, Sniedze šį kartą miestą tyrinės per sakralų garsą, balsą ir akustines erdves.
Rezidencijos metu menininkė gilinsis į žydiškas kantorių giesmes, jų melodiką, melizmas, mikrotoninius balso niuansus, tekstų prasmes ir sakralinės muzikos klausymosi patirtį šiandien. Ją domina, kaip tokios melodijos galėtų skambėti skirtingose Žagarės istorinėse ir religinėse erdvėse – ypač sinagogoje, kur vyks jos kūrybinis procesas ir pristatymas.
Sniedze rezidencijoje dirbs su balsu, fleita, pianinu, looperiais ir erdvės akustika. Galutinis rezultatas planuojamas kaip koncertas-performansas Žagarės sinagogoje, kuriame kantoriškų melodijų atgarsiai susijungs su šiuolaikine muzikine interpretacija, gyvu atlikimu ir jautriu santykiu su vietos atmintimi.
Jos kūrinys kvies įsiklausyti į Žagarę per garsą – ne tik kaip į istorijos vietą, bet kaip į erdvę, kurioje atmintis gali skambėti, aidėti ir vėl tapti gyva.

Voice, flute, space, and echo – in Sniedze’s practice, music becomes not only sound, but a way of listening to a place.
Sniedze Prauliņa is a composer, songwriter, singer, and flutist from Riga, Latvia. She creates music for films, animation, theatre, solo projects, and the band JUUK. Her practice includes collaboration, improvisation, and creating atmospheres for poetry readings, exhibitions, and performative encounters.
Žagarė is not an unfamiliar place for the artist – she has performed here several times during the Žagarė Fringe festival, both as a solo artist and with JUUK. Returning to Žagarė for this residency, Sniedze will explore the town through sacred sound, voice, and acoustic spaces.
During the residency, the artist will focus on Jewish cantorial songs, their melodies, melismatic structures, microtonal qualities of the voice, textual meanings, and the experience of listening to sacred music today. She is interested in how these melodies might resonate in different historical and religious spaces of Žagarė – especially in the synagogue, where her creative process and presentation will take place.
Sniedze will work with voice, flute, piano, loopers, and the acoustics of space. The final result is planned as a concert-performance in Žagarė Synagogue, where echoes of cantorial melodies will meet contemporary musical interpretation, live performance, and a sensitive relationship with local memory.
Her work invites us to listen to Žagarė through sound – not only as a place of history, but as a space where memory can resonate, echo, and become present again.
