Modestas Barštys: „Esu menininkas, dirbantis su atminties, istorijos ir vietos temomis. Mano kūryboje svarbi medžiagiškumo ir pasakojimo sąveika, dažnai pasitelkiu rastus objektus, archyvinius fragmentus ar erdvinius sprendimus, kurie leidžia atskleisti nematomas ar nutylėtas istorijas.
Mane domina, kaip praeities pėdsakai išlieka dabartyje ir kaip jie gali būti patiriami per šiuolaikines menines formas.“
Kūrinio pavadinimas “Atmink” referuoja į hebrajišką žodį “Zachor” kuri galima vadinti judaizmo etiniu imperatyvu tiek neatsiejama žydiškos kultūros dalimi.
Instaliacijos centre iš Žagarėje rastų langų stiklų susiformuoja lizdo motyvas. Kūrinys per atpažįstamus simbolius tyrinėja bendruomenės, atminties ir nykimo santykį. Stiklas tampa architektūrinės atminties medžiaga, o tuščias lizdas žymi prarastos bendruomenės pėdsaką.
Kūrinys sukurtas reaguojant į Žagarės žydų bendruomenės istoriją. Santykį tarp klestinčios
bendruomenės su dabarties realijomis, paryškinant atminties trapumą. Kūrinys kviečia sustoti, klausytis ir patirti atmintį kaip trapią, fragmentišką ir nuolat kintančią erdvę.

Modestas Barštys: “I am an artist who works with themes of memory, history, and place. The interplay between matter and narrative is central to my work; I often use found objects, archival fragments, or spatial solutions that reveal invisible or untold stories.
I am interested in how footprints of the past remain in the present and how they can be experienced through contemporary artistic forms.”
The title of the work, “Atmink,” refers to the Hebrew word “Zachor,” which can be described as both an ethical imperative of Judaism and an integral part of Jewish culture.
At the center of the installation, window panes found in Žagarė form a nest motif. Through recognizable symbols, the work explores the relationship between community, memory, and disappearance. Glass becomes the material of architectural memory, while the empty nest marks the trace of a lost community.
The work was created in response to the history of the Jewish community in Žagarė. It explores the relationship between a thriving
community and the realities of the present, highlighting the fragility of memory. The work invites viewers to pause, listen, and experience memory as a fragile, fragmentary, and constantly changing space.
